Filipino nurses seeking for greener pasture can go to Japan for opportunities to gain better employment and higher pay.
The Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel Lopez notes the aging population of Japan sparks new and huge potential for Filipino nurses to work in the diplomatic country.
Lopez said a trainee nurse can earn an average of Y125,000 or Php 75,000 pesos and a full-fledged staff nurse gets Y250,000 or Php 125,000 per month.
But getting employed still proves to be a challenge for many Filipino nurses. To provide safe care and communicate properly, applicants must learn Nihongo, both oral and written, which is part of the stringent requirements of working in Japan. Passing Japan’s Nurse Licensure Examination is also part of the obstacles to be hurdled.
Since 2010, only 25 Filipino nurses were employed under the Japan Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA).
Last July, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) announced an opportunity for nurses and care workers, opening 200 slots for placement.
Interested applicants can register to POEA’s Manpower Registry System.
